February is Heart Month

February is Heart Month, a month-long initiative to help raise awareness about cardiovascular disease and its effects. Wear Red in your school, workplace and neighborhood and please raise funds for the Cayman Heart Fund. Get into the team spirit and pick up your own “Wear Red for Heart Month” T-shirts which are available at the Cayman Heart Fund, Balance Cayman and Audi Camana Bay.

CVDs are the number 1 cause of death globally: more people die annually from CVDs than from any other cause.

Heart Month is a fantastic way to remind everyone to focus on their hearts and encourage them to get their families, friends and communities involved. The most important thing you can do is to speak to your physician about your risks and know your numbers by checking for blood pressure, cholesterol, sugar levels, weight, and BMI.

For the past 12 years the Cayman Heart Fund has worked diligently in the community raising funds to increase awareness about the risks for heart disease and stroke.

To benefit Heart Month, all proceeds from Pilates and fitness classes at Balance Cayman on Saturday, February 23rd, will be donated to Cayman Heart Fund. Sue Merren, owner of Balance Cayman, promotes the importance of heart health and awareness around the prevention of heart disease.

Audi Camana Bay has offered to help during Heart Month by raffling an Audi watch. To qualify, participants are asked to visit the Audi Showroom in Camana Bay and donate to the Cayman Heart Fund (CHF) an amount of $20 or more. Everyone that donates will receive an CHF T-shirt. Audi Sales Manager, Craig Arch said, they are pleased to help with the initiative and hope to inspire residents to take their heart health seriously. Craig walks 5 miles every day to keep his heart healthy.

Coordinator for the CHF, Colleen Mellott, is grateful to the community for their support and encourages residents to contact the CHF to share wear red photos and inspiring stories on how they are honouring heart month.

Another proud supporter of Cayman Heart Fund is Sportisa. They enjoy partnering with like-minded organizations and individuals who share their goal of promoting the importance of staying healthy and keeping fit. They will soon be launching their Walking Club in partnership with the CHF – stay tuned for more details.
